Hastings and Bexhill Mencap: A new website for a new era!

Client: Hastings and Bexhill Mencap
Project: Website Redesign
Team: Stacey and Kerry, Let's Do Marketing

The Challenge

Hastings and Bexhill Mencap is a vital community organisation supporting people with learning disabilities and their carers. With the re-opening of their newly refurbished Frimley Centre building in St Leonards-on-Sea, the charity was entering an exciting new era—one that demanded a modern and easy-to-use website to reflect their expanded services and facilities.

The goal was to create a site that:

  • Showcased the charity’s full range of services and community events.

  • Made information clear for service users and carers.

  • Reflected the vibrancy and forward-thinking approach of Mencap to launch the opening of their newly refurbished Frimley Centre building.

  • Was easy for staff members to update and maintain long term

Our Approach

Working closely with Deputy CEO Lianne Buttrey and the Mencap team, Let's Do Marketing focused on creating a website that could truly bring the charity’s work to life online.

  • SEO and Copywriting: Stacey led the content and search strategy, ensuring the website could be easily found online while making key information clear and simple to navigate.

  • Design and Website Build: Kerry designed and built a modern, visually engaging website with intuitive navigation, so users could quickly find the information they needed.

Our prior experience working with VCSEs, non-profits, and public sector organisations—through the not-for-private-profit Let's Do Business Group and public sector contracts—gave us a unique insight into what Mencap needed. This meant we could design a site that was easy to manage and update, even for organisations with limited marketing resources.

We also focused on training and support, empowering Mencap to maintain their site independently, take control of their own content, and keep it up-to-date without ongoing external costs.

"It’s been a pleasure to work on a new website for Hastings and Bexhill Mencap. We have loved learning about the incredible work they do and the positive impact they have in the community.”

Says Stacey Pretty, Marketing Director of Let’s Do Marketing.

“As an agency that champions small businesses and values giving back, we’re proud to have helped them continue their mission through a website that truly reflects who they are."

The Outcome

The redesigned website has become a central hub for Hastings and Bexhill Mencap, helping them connect with their community more effectively than ever:

  • The site is modern, easy to use, and visually engaging, reflecting the vibrancy of the new Frimley building.

  • Service users, carers, and the wider community can easily find events, services, and important information.

  • The Mencap team, including Deputy CEO Leanne Buttrey, can now update content independently, ensuring the website stays current and relevant.

  • The site highlights all the incredible work Mencap does in the community, reinforcing their mission and expanding their reach.

Stacey and Kerry came to our offices to see our building and to understand our services and our place in the community. After just one meeting, we clicked! They delivered exactly what we needed. A user-friendly, fresh and easy-to-manage website. Before, we had a complicated website platform and it was starting to look tired and confusing, but with LDM’s support,  I have been able to refresh our new website with events, news and new photos easily!
— Lianne Buttrey, Deputy CEO, Hastings and Bexhill Mencap

The success of the Mencap website demonstrates how thoughtful design, clear content, and user-focused functionality can transform a charity’s online presence. By combining their expertise in User Experience design, public sector communications, and VCSE marketing, Stacey and Kerry from Let's Do Marketing delivered a website that not only looks great but empowers the Mencap team to take full control of their digital communications—helping them make an even greater impact in the community for years to come.
