Top 5 Video Editing Softwares

Want to try your hand at video editing, or decided to start using videos as part of your marketing strategy? We’ve listed the top video editing tools out there at the moment to compare what could work for you.

TikToks, Reels, Youtube videos…..our feeds and timelines are full of slick, eyecatching videos. To someone with no previous experience with video creation but wants to grow their business or even just create engaging videos for your personal profile, it might feel like you’re out of your depth.

Well – you’re not!

There is plenty of free and modestly priced software out there for even a novice video creator to make great content. Everyone starts somewhere, and thankfully plenty of platforms provide a simple interface to use to get to grips with creating your first cinematic masterpiece – so if you want to be the next Casey Neistat, you can work your way up.

It’s worth noting that the latest news says that social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram are preferring you to edit your videos in the app to promote ‘authentic’ content and encourage users to stay in-app. That being said, these platforms and their in-app video editors are pretty nifty and perfect for beginners to get to grips with video creation – so we’d recommend trying both the in-app editors as well as some other apps, to see what works best for you!

iMovie (free on new iPhone, iPad, Mac)

If you have an iPhone (unless you’re performing CPR on an old iPhone 6), you have iMovie already. It’s already installed on all newer iPhones, iPads and Macs, and is a simple, effective and clean editing app.

Unless you’re editing a feature film, iOS handles iMovie for short-form content really well. Simply drag and drop your clips, add text and music, and choose from a range of free templates to create a sleek video in minutes!

InShot – designed for iPad (InShot Pro available for the year for less than £15)

InShot is a favourite with influencers right now. Available on iOS and Android, InShot is also free, and offers a lot of perks like free backing music for vlogs, filters to enhance your videos, as well as the basic ability to easily crop and edit your clips.

Canva (free version but paid version allows more templates, effects and elements)

Have you jumped on the Canva train yet? A tool that should be in every content creators arsenal, Canva allows you to create not only videos, but infographics, PDF’s, leaflets and more. Simply pick the format you want to create a design for (you can pick from Facebook and Youtube video dimensions, to TikTok and Reels format) and upload your footage, and you’re off. Canva has lots of free templates to use as well as a variety of fonts, graphics and effects, but if you want access to everything you might have to spring for the paid version – at £99.99 a year.

Vimeo (£9 a month so on the pricier side, but great for an all in one solution for creating, managing and sharing your videos)

Vimeo’s video editor allows you create videos in the perfect dimension for the platforms you’re posting them on. Like the other options, it provides a lot of templates for you to use, with special templates for Linkedin optimised to catch the eyes of your audience. This is its main selling point – their templates are designed specifically to get you results.

In true Vimeo fashion, this editor is paired with the ability to seamlessly share and host your videos across your marketing channels. Whether you want to post it on your website or share it to YouTube, Vimeo lets you share your videos with the click of a button.

Adobe Premiere Pro / Premiere Rush (Rush is a free mobile and desktop video editing app. Pro is a paid for software for those award winning videos)

Adobe is the all-rounder for anything creative. You’ll have heard of Photoshop, and its video counterpart – Adobe Premiere Pro. A heavy duty video editor for PC’s, the software is on the pricier end of the scale, so if you get a lot of use out of video content and want to create longer, higher quality videos, it’s the industry standard tool.

For smartphones, Adobe has Premiere Rush – a bitesize version of Premiere Pro, Premiere Rush allows you to make videos on the go without compromising on Adobe’s quality. Interface wise, it’s similar to iMovie but packing a punch with more templates and transitions to use – it’s all down to personal preference and how intricate you want your video to be.

Much like Canva and Vimeo, Premiere Rush allows you to easily pick the format and size of your video to make it perfect for social channels or your website. Like these platforms too, Premiere Rush makes it easier to share your finished video to your social channels.  The free version of Premiere Rush ticks all the boxes, but the version with an Adobe Express subscription (£9.99 a month) ticks even more – with more storage, more templates and graphics to use, as well as seamless sharing and editing across your devices.

It's a winner for us!
